I’m John Unwin. I build software and take photographs, and this site is where those two things meet.

By day I design and build systems — resilient, scalable things that have to keep working. Away from that, I photograph whatever catches my attention: travel, architecture, flowers on a walk, the light on a lakeshore.

Most of the photo pipeline here is automated: my images carry machine-generated descriptions and alt text (from my image_description project), and the best-performing shots are promoted to this site’s gallery based on engagement scores.
